Why Halifax Airport Flights Are Departures Today

Reason for Departure:

On Saturday night, an aircraft incident at Halifax Stanfield International Airport forced all flight operations to be temporarily delayed.

According to airport spokesperson Tiffany Chase, at before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, an Air Canada Express flight operated by Pal Airlines arrived from St. John’s, Newfoundland, and suffered a problem upon landing.

According to Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick, the Bombardier Q400 plane encountered a “suspected landing gear issue” after arriving Saturday night, preventing it from reaching the terminal and requiring the crew and 73 passengers to be offloaded by bus.

Fitzpatrick stated that no one on board was hurt, while a spokeswoman for the Nova Scotia Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who reacted to the incident with paramedics, reported minor injuries.

Chase stated that flight operations were paused following the incident while waiting for clearance to restore airfield operations, and that one of the airport’s runways has subsequently resumed normal operations.

The cause of the occurrence is unknown and under investigation.

Fitzpatrick stated that they are waiting for the Canadian Transportation Safety Board to release the aircraft so that they can recover client possessions.
